Maurice Eugene Meuth, 86, died peacefully at 8:00 a.m., Monday, April 26, 2011 at the Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabiliation Center. He was born in rural Jerseyville on Nov. 17, 1924, the second of six children born to the late John & Marie (Kallal) Meuth.Maurice was raised in a farm family and began working at a young age. He graduated from Jersey Township High School, and continued with his love of farming throughout his entire life.He was a a dog lover and avid coon hunter, and was well known throughout the state showing his beloved Black & Tan coon hounds. Maurice trained numerous grand champions and was recognized in 1993 as a lifetime member of the American Black & Tan Coonhound Association.Maurice also enjoyed bowling, golfing in his later years, camping, and traveled extensively with his wife throughout the United States and numerous countries.He married the former June Burrows on April 21, 1945 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father P.P. Heinen officiating. Together they have been blessed with 66 years together and a family that consisted of their two children, and now grandchildren.Surviving are his wife, June; a daughter & son in law, Jean & Carl Gilman of Fieldon; and a son & daughter in law, Mike & Pat Meuth of Jerseyville; six grandchildren & their spouses, Julie & Rex Schofield of Carrollton, Susan & Kevin Ayres of Jerseyville, David Gilman of Fieldon, Jennifer & David Fink of Jerseyville, Stacey Meuth of Kane, and Mary & Matt Capps of Jerseyville; 10 great grandchildren, Haley, Eric, Megan, Molly, Madelynn, John, Ben, Emily, Cory, and Ethan; a brother & sister in law, Cletus & Helen Meuth of Kane; and a sister in law, Margie Meuth of Jerseyville.He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gregory Meuth who was killed in action in World War II, and Paul Meuth; and two sisters, Anne Wagenblast and Dorothy Meuth.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery near Fieldon.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville or to Masses.
