Matthew R. Stefl, 51, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at his home.
He was born October 20, 1973, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of Brenda “Kathy” (Raub) Fuhrman and the late Steve Stefl.
He had worked 18 years in maintenance with Enter Park in St. Louis. The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country during Desert Storm. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, coached girls softball and an avid fan of NASCAR, Pittsburgh Steelers football and the St. Louis Cardinal. Matt never met a stranger, always ready to tell a story and was the life of the party. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends, enjoyed a day golfing or fishing and enjoyed a cold beer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Alexis Stefl of Granite City; stepmother, Diana Stefl of Carlyle; sister and brother-in-law, Kristie and Ray Grieve of Highland; two nephews; Justin and Zachary Grieve; his former wife, Liz Stefl of Granite City; numerous step-brothers and step-sisters; many nieces and nephews; his cherished dog, Duke; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Fuhrman.
Family and friends may join at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, for a procession to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis for burial with full military honors.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at Fridays South, 106 E. Main Street in Collinsville from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
