Matthew T. Mangara, 35, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2026 in Godfrey. He was born on November 20, 1990, in St Louis, MO, the son of Thomas A. Mangara of Jerseyville and Nancy (John) Culiberk of Godfrey.
He graduated from Alton High School in 2009. Matt had a strong work ethic and held a job from the time he was 17. He was most proud of his job as a Rural Route Mail Carrier for Brighton because his grandfather was a Rural Route Carrier. Just like his grandpa, he never called in sick (ever)! He loved to have fun with friends, travel and see extended family. He loved his cantankerous cat, Oscar. Most of all, he loved his daughter, McKenna.
He is survived by his sweet daughter, McKenna, her mom, Megan, and his parents and brother, Chris (Mackenzie). Our hearts are broken. He will be sorely missed by his aunts and uncles, nephew, Grayson and cousins, Sean, Amy, and Michael Walter. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents of Granite City, Bernard and Vera Mang and maternal grandparents, Albert and Marjorie Walter of Godfrey.
Matt’s friends and family will gather on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 5-8pm to celebrate his life at Elias Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home located at 1313 West Delmar in Godfrey. Please dress comfortably and bring your stories.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation for his daughter, McKenna’s College Fund. Checks may be made out to McKenna Mangara and mailed to Carrollton Bank or brought to memorial.
