Mary Woodcock

Mary P. Woodcock, 101, died at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Jerseyville Manor.

Born January 25, 1923 in St. Louis. She was the daughter of Konstantine and Aneta (Kodros) Poulos. Mary graduated from Blewett High School and Miss Hickey's Secretarial School. She was employed for many years by the Scott Radiological Group.

She married Richard W. Woodcock on May 6, 1965. Theirs was a marriage made in heaven. He preceded her in death, April 1, 2015.

She was a lifetime member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in St. Louis. She was a member and past president of the Godfrey Women's Club, a board member and past president of the Alton City Cemetery. She volunteered for many years for the Alton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and for the Crisis Food Center up until she was nearly 100 years old.

In honor of Mary's 100th birthday, and in appreciation for her kindness and generosity in the community, the Mayor of the Village of Godfrey proclaimed January 25th as "Mary P. Woodcock Day".

She is survived by stepdaughter, Marta (Steve) Steiner, grandson Evan (Tabitha) Steiner, four beautiful great grandchildren: Theo, Esme, Toula and Ellis, niece Annetta (Ken) John, niece Kathy (Gary) Hagan, nephew Tom (Liz) Coles, niece Carol (Gary) Sproull, nephew Tim Duggan and numerous beloved cousins. 

Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 am. Friday, April 19, 2024 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alton. Burial at Alton City Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crisis Food Center in Alton or 5A's Animal Shelter in Alton.
