Mary T. Yowell, age 96, passed away at 11:38 pm Monday, November 28, 2011 at Blu Fountain Manor in Godfrey.
She was born on May 28, 1915 in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of the late Everett and Elizabeth (Carrington) Yowell.
She was a Regional Director for the Children’s Home and Aid Society of IL. Mary was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and received her Master Degree in Social Work in 1938. She was employed in childcare agencies in Lima, Cincinnati and Dayton before moving to Alton in 1951. She enjoyed traveling Europe and the United States after she retired, reading and putting together jig saw puzzles.
She is survived by one brother Everett and wife Margie Yowell of Centerville, OH, one niece Ann and husband John Shreve of Sumpter, SC, two nephews David and wife Janet Cummings of Mendocino, CA, Rev. Alan and wife Rev. Rhonda Cummings of Ocala, FL and nine great nieces and nephews.
Her parents, a brother John and his wife Gladys Yowell and a sister Elizabeth and her husband Lawrence Cummings, preceded Mary in death.
Per her wishes Cremation Rites will be accorded.
Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH.
