Mary Yvonne Smith, 86, passed away at 1:07 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family while under the care of BJC Hospice.
She was born on April 23, 1940, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Alvin Joseph and Margaret (Blanton) Bell.
Mary was the owner and operator of Mary’s Wildlife Inn in Nutwood for many years before her retirement.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William K. and Cindy Smith Jr. of Jerseyville, and Danny and Kathy Smith of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren, Tony Smith of Dow, Danny Joe (Kristen) Smith of Jerseyville, Dawn (Mike) Wittman of Jerseyville, Dale Smith of Carrollton, Maranda Smith of Carrollton, Jason (Randi) Branham of New Canton, Illinois, and Craig Schaaf (Shellie) of Bethalto; as well as numerous great-grandchildren: Zander, Aiden, Addie, Hank, William, Connor, Bennett, Will, Franko, Kimbra, Alex, Bella, Owen, McKenzie, Madison, and Meredith. She is also survived by a sister, Rosemary of Arkansas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Smith; a brother, Alvin; and a sister, Dottie.
Cremation rites will be accorded by Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
