Mary Janette Smith, known affectionately as "Janette," "Nana," or "Aunt Net," passed away at the age of 91, one week shy of her 92nd birthday, on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 5:53 am at Villa Rose Senior Living Community in Bethalto.
Janette was born on March 22, 1932, in Clinton, Kentucky, to Guy and Pauline (Ward) Binkley. She married Ronald Dean Smith on April 17, 1954, in Wood River, Illinois, who preceded her in death on November 13, 2020.
She cherished spending time with her family, particularly her granddaughters. Janette was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church, found joy in reading, and loved dining out and socializing.
Janette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Mark Killebrew of Bethalto, two granddaughters and their spouses, Molly and David Kasich of St. Louis, Missouri, and Abby and Adam Carmichael of East Alton, Illinois, a great granddaughter, Charlotte Ann "Charlie" Carmichael, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Evelyn Miller, and three brothers, Billy Binkley, and twin brothers James and John Binkley.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto, Illinois, with Rev. Kermit Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials in Janette's honor are suggested to the Villa Rose Activity Fund. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is overseeing the arrangements.
