Mary O'Laughlin

Mary Edith O’Laughlin, age 94, of Edwardsville, died on Wednesday, January 22, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.

Mary was born in Hillsboro, IL on November 17, 1930, to the late Emily and Leonard Mateyka. She attended Edwardsville High School, and married Thomas (Tom) William O’Laughin at St. Boniface Church on June 24, 1950.

Mary was a homemaker for the first 22 years of her marriage to Tom and was a devoted mother to her ten children. Tom proceeded her in death in 1972.  She sang for many years in the Southern Illinois University Symphony Chorus, was a member of the Catholic charities organization Daughters of Isabella and enjoyed playing cards with friends.

Mary’s work life began in 1973 working for the Illinois Department of Unemployment in Edwardsville. She spent the second half of her career working for the Public Health Service, retiring at age 70.

In her retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling with family and friends and attending St. Boniface Church where she was a lifelong member.

Mary is survived by her son Mark, daughter Sue (Ken), son Shawn, daughter Jane (Scott), daughter Kate, son Terry, daughter Pat (John), daughter Pegg, and son Tim. Youngest son, Todd, proceeded her in death.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ellyn, Amy (Jason), Erik, Michael (Patrick), Neil, Katie, Tommy (Cari), Emily, Danielle, Bryce, Taryn (Mark), Erin, Ellie, Michael, Logan; and four great grandchild, Lane, Marshall, Charlie and Keegan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or The ASPCA.
