Mary Myer

Mary A. Myer, 92, of Bethalto, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 5:45 a.m., surrounded by her family.

She was born in Abilene, Kansas, on December 4, 1932, the daughter of Carl K. and Mary E. (Bangerter) Fengel. Mary married James Foster Myer in Abilene on August 6, 1960. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2000.

Mary worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years. Starting in Kansas then locally to Glen Carbon doing home nursing. She later worked as a receptionist at Hawthorne Animal in Troy.

She had been a member of Leef Township Senior Citizens. Mary enjoyed sewing, bowling, playing cards and games, Bingo, going to the Alton Belle Casino, and her dogs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and family.

Survivors include her children, Paul (Donna) Myer of Moro, and Mary (Roger) Slaby of Edwardsville; five grandchildren, Andrew Myer, David (Scarlett) Slaby, Christopher (Kallie) Slaby, Steven Slaby, and Tyler Slaby; four great-grandchildren, Calvin, Lilly, Kai, and Ming; a sister-in-law, Lorene Fengel of Abilene; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends at Cedarhurst of Bethalto.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James; a brother, Carl Fengel, Jr.; and a sister, Jean (Jimmy) Trumble.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where services will also be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Salem Evangelical Cemetery in Alhambra, IL.
