Mary Young

Mary Margaret Young, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away at 4:31am on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the age of 84 while at the Caseyville Nursing Home & Rehab Center. Born in Beardstown, Illinois on December 6, 1933, and lovingly known as Maggie, she was an only child who never wed, living with and caring for her mother—until her death. Maggie worked at the Edwardsville Intelligencer, at Scott Air Force Base, and for 25 years at the Hawthorne Animal Hospital, before retiring. She was very proud of her flowers and her Irish heritage, and she loved Christmas and her animals: her horses (Tasha and Kate), her dogs (she was partial to Irish Setters), and her numerous cats. Maggie loved family history and keeping photo albums and family records; she loved to travel, to cook, and to entertain, but her greatest love was visiting with family and friends. She was dedicated to her religion and a faithful servant at her church. Maggie was preceded in death by both her parents, Nigel Mary (Flynn) Young and Roy C. Young, and is survived by cousins and other extended family members. She was a sweet, authentic, energetic soul who was thoughtful, caring, compassionate and generous. Maggie was a cousin and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2018, at St. Boniface Church on North Buchannan St., where she attended church throughout her life. Her remains will be buried with her mother at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery on North Kansas and Cass Avenue in Edwardsville. Weber & Rodney Funeral Home is in charge of services.
