Mary Louise Kennedy

Mary Louise Kennedy, age 88, died peacefully at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Energy, IL on October 19, 1924 to the late William and Ada (Palmer) Riley. She worked as a nurse’s aide before retiring and becoming a part of the Foster Grandparent Program at Alton Daycare and Learning. Mary sincerely loved all her “grandchildren” there for almost 11 years and looked forward to going to work until the day she became ill.

On April 15, 1946 she married Lester Kenneth Kennedy who preceded her in death in 1983.

They were the parents of one daughter; Sandra Dean (Michael) of Alton and two sons; Kenneth Michael Kennedy (Pam Gaither)of Alton and Clifton Wayne, who passed away in 2005. Also surviving are five grandchildren and their spouses; Breanna Kennedy (Adam Tinker) of Alton, Laura Kennedy of Godfrey, Shannon Anderson (Ryan) of Godfrey, Brian Kennedy (Susan Mosby) of Jerseyville and Shane Dean (Bree) of Gulf Breeze, Florida, 11 great grandchildren; Ashley and Addison Dean, Michael and Ellen Anderson, Kyleigh Kennedy (Corey Endicott), Korby Kennedy (Shelby Cress), Samantha Kennedy, Josh Mosby, Hannah Forgy, Ethan Kennedy and Alex Tinker, one great great granddaughter; Briella Samuels and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson in infancy; Michael Lee Kennedy, eight siblings; Arthur, Edward and Mick Riley, Eileen Brashear, Rose Jacobs, Pansy Reagan and Helen and Sylvia Riley.

A memorial visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. on Thursday until a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be private. The family requests memorials be made to Hope Rescue, PO Box 397, Godfrey, IL.
