Mary Landon

JERSEYVILLE - Mary F. Landon, 74, died at 2:42 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2023, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

She was born in Jerseyville, Illinois on November 29, 1948, and was the daughter of Stewart Bennett and Anna Margaret (Tepen) Carpunky.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Jerseyville, and graduated in 1966 from Jersey Community High School. 

For several years she had worked in the Service Department at Sunderland Motors, until accepting employment with Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home where she served as their Admissions Director for nearly 20 years before retirement.

Mary was devoted to her Catholic faith, and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville.   

She will best be remembered as someone who loved to have a good time, always enjoying the company of others, and was blessed in her life with many good friends. 

Her greatest love, however, was for her children and grandchildren, and she made a point to attend most any activity they were involved with. 

She was formerly married to Paul D. Schroeder, and together they were blessed with five children, who survive along with their spouses, James Schroeder of Jerseyville,  Steve Schroeder, and his companion, Kendra Thornsbury, of Jerseyville, Angela and Matt Derrick of Jerseyville, Karen Schroeder and her companion, Craig Marshall, of Fieldon, and  Adam Schroeder of Jerseyville; fifteen grandchildren, Mason, Miranda, Madison, Meredith, Maria, Mitchell and Myles Schroeder, Maleah, Cora and Luca Derrick, Jack and Cole Clemmer, Sophia and Sebastian Schroeder and Noah French.

She is also survived by her four brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Diana Carpunky and Mark and Pati Carpunky, all of Jerseyville, Tom and Tracey Carpunky of Godfrey, and James Carpunky of Jerseyville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Morgen Ryan Schroeder on Nov. 3, 2022; two infant sisters, Margaret and Louise Carpunky; an infant brother, Patrick Carpunky; and a loving companion, Roger "Tuffy" Goetten.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Martin Smith officiating. 

Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic School in Jerseyville.
