Mary L. Scharth, age 77, passed away at 4:05 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
She was born on October 27, 1939, in Valley City, IL, the daughter of the late James and Dolle (Holland) Higdon.
She married Robert D. Scharth on February 19, 1955 in Alton. He preceded her in death on February 7, 2014.
Mary loved reading, traveling, bingo, watching soap operas and going to casinos and most of all, spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters; Mary Ann and her spouse Mark Caldwell of St. Charles, MO and Debra Waters of Collinsville, IL one son; Jim and his spouse Jan Scharth of Dow, IL, nine grandchildren and their spouses; Marlo and Tim Scholle, Justin and (Rebecca) Caldwell, Chris and Brandie Scharth, Jenny and Josh Zipprich, Amanda and Matt Scoggins, Maria Scharth, Branden Waters, Leann Scharth, Branden Waters and Tom Waters Jr.; twelve great grandchildren, Malea and Makenna Scholle, Aubrey, Emily and Kennedy Lou Caldwell, Liam and Kaliann Scharth, Kayla and Carter Zipprich, Liam, Isacc, Logan and Tommy Waters; one sister, Donna Jean Hull of East Alton; a brother-in-law, Paul Scharth of Alton, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Robert Lee Scharth; four siblings, Shirley Mae Pointer, Robert Higdon, Joyce Rother and Fred Higdon.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm, Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral Services will be at 1 pm, on Monday, February 20, 2017 at the funeral home with Rev. Ray Scholle officiating.
Burial will follow at the Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
