With heavy hearts, we announce that Mary Margaret Johnson passed away on February 6, 2026, in Hardin, Illinois, at the age of 86.
A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary was the heart of a large and loving family. She was the devoted mother of five children, including her eldest daughter, Nancy A. Mixon (John), and son John F. Johnson Jr., who preceded her in death. She is also remembered by her daughters Patricia and Russel of Alton, IL; Ruby and John Doles of Kampsville, IL; and Daphne and John Watts of Cottage Hills, IL.
Mary's legacy lives on through 22 grandchildren: Larry (Kelly) Blankenship, Victoria Brown, Lolita (Leonard) Cross, Michael (Amanda) Johnson, Jennifer Dunse, Matthew (Kristy) Smith, Brittani (Jason) Nasello, Dashielle Rose, Christopher Doles, Johns Doles Jr., Khloe Doles, Baylee Doles, Ciria Doles, Adrian Mateycak, Ivy Watts, Ethan Watts, Sidney—and numerous great-grandchildren and a cherished great-great-granddaughter.
She held close to her heart her grandson Dwayne Dunse and great-grandchildren Talen and Legan Craig, who preceded her in death. Her “bonus daughter,” Brenda Parker, also preceded her; her memory remains alive through bonus grandchildren Helen Parker, Dawn Parker, Leroy Jones, and Brittany Evans.
Mary’s home was always filled with music and warmth—a place where love echoed in every room. She was a caring provider whose spirit lives on in those she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 28, 2026, at the Owl's Club in Alton, IL, at 6 p.m.
