JERSEYVILLE – Mary Jean (Menzie) Boker, 79, died at 3:55 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.

She was born on April 7, 1938 in Carrollton, one of eight children born to the late Charles and Jesse (Ballard) Menzie.

Mary Jane was a lifelong resident of Jerseyville and lived a life of true devotion.

She was devoted to her community, starting her working career at the Stadium Theater as a teenager and later at Busch’s Bowling Alley for over 25 years. She then began working as a volunteer for Jersey Community Hospital and was recognized with a plaque commemorating over 2000 hours of loyalty and devotion the hospital and its patients.

She was devoted to her faith and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville for nearly 40 years and was involved in several committees and special causes as well as the Church Choir throughout the years.

One of her greatest acts of devotion, however, was to her family. She married the love of her life, Edward D. Boker on August 31, 1957 in Jerseyville and their marriage was blessed with 59 years and only 7 months apart before he greeted her with a smile and a “welcome home”, to live life eternally forevermore.

She and Ed’s married life brought them many joys – with the birth of their two children and the grandchildren that followed – as well as their share of heartache, including Ed’s long battle with cancer and the loss of their daughter, Janice.  She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling with Ed, most especially their trips to California and Mexico. When they were not traveling, you could find them visiting area nursing homes singing or at home with their grandchildren, who they cherished each and every moment with.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Judi Boker of Brighton; two grandsons, Derek Boker of Brighton and Philip Boker of Edwardsville; a granddaughter, Sarann Boker of Brighton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandy Williams of Alton and Debbie & Bob Dean of Jerseyville; as well as a brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Shirley Menzie of Jerseyville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jesse Menzie; her husband, Edward Boker on December 19, 2016; a daughter, Janice Kay Ealey on December 31, 2010; three brothers, James, Bruce and Gary Eugene Menzie and a sister, Barbara Scoggins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Dennis Hill will officiate.

Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville or to BJC Hospice.
