Mary Jane Russell, 76, died at 1:00 a.m., Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Jersey Community Hospital.

She was born at the family home in Jerseyville on October 23, 1940 to the late Roger and Marjorie (Calame) Stevens and was a graduate of Jersey High School.

She married James “Jim” Russell on August 23, 1958 in Corinth, MS and together they were the proud parents of two sons and a daughter and shared in 58 years of marriage and only a short time apart before he greeted her in Heaven, after his death on May 22, 2017.

She spent her life providing a loving home for her family and when Jim began traveling for work, she was there at his side, assisting with office work as needed.

After Jim’s retirement in 2000, they returned to Jerseyville where she spent much of her time enjoying a good book and spent countless hours quilting.  

Surviving are a daughter, Sheila Schmieder of Jerseyville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve & Donna Russell of Jerseyville and Brad & Melody Russell of Piasa; seven grandchildren, Christina Isringhausen of Jerseyville; Cyrena Russell of Hardin; Patrick Russell of Jerseyville; Michael Russell of Piasa; Kevin & Meaghan Schmieder of Santa Fe, NM; Bradley Schmieder and his fiancé, Tiffanie Haug, of Fieldon and Jeremy Schmieder and his fiancé, Katie Alderfer, of Jerseyville; a great-grandson, Jaxon Schmieder; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joanne & James Applegate of Naples, FL; Cara & Mark Cummiskey of Marietta, GA and Jeanne & Carl Stevens-Crowe of Macon, GA; a step-brother and sister-in-law, Greg & Nancy Oij of Lisle, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Jim, and her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Gertrude Oij Stevens; a granddaughter, Samantha Russell; a sister, Janis Voss; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Armstrong and Sandy Hand as well as a brother-in-law, Jack Hand.

Per her wishes, cremation rights will be accorded and inurnment will take place at a later date at the Trible Memorial Cemetery in Piasa.

Memorials may be given to Trible Memorial Cemetery, Angel Tree or to the Family for the benefit of her granddaughter, Cyrena, a resident at Calhoun Court.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
