Mary Iona Crum, 81, passed away, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at her daughter's home with family by her side.
Born April 11, 1934, she was the daughter of William Otis and Ruth (Smay) Releford.
She married Ivan Crum on May 5, 1955 in Alton. He died November 15, 1997.
A homemaker while raising her family, she went on to attend Passavant Nursing School, earning a Licensed Practical Nursing certificate in 1990. She then work in a nursing home in Mt. Sterling.
She and Ivan were farmers and were avid lovers of animals. They shared farms in both Brown and Grundy Counties. On weekends, the enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and showing rabbits at rabbit shows across the Midwest. Mary enjoyed raising animals through out her life. Her children and grandchildren speak of her various collection of birds, guinea pigs, fish, rabbits and dogs over the years. One thing was for sure, if a grandchild wanted to take home a new pet from grandma's newest collection, they left the house with the pet and all the accessories needed.
Surviving are two sons, John Crum, Gary (Sharon) Crum; daughter, Dianna (John) Haines; ten grandchildren, John Crum, Jr., Rachel (Phillip) Hargis, Melanie (Lucas) Lammers, Heather Crum, Beth (John) Massey, Kayli Iona Haines, Stormy Ray Lopez, Eddie Jackson, Charles Tyler and Connie (Eric) Belcher; 17 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Hancock.
Preceding in death were her parents; husband; and an infant granddaughter, Melissa Mary Crum.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will follow in Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery in Hettick.
