Mary Herbert

Mary Therese Herbert, nee Munie, age 87, born August 11, 1938 in Belleville, Ill., passed away Saturday morning, August 30, 2025, with her family at her side, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Ill.

Mary graduated from St. Teresa Academy and Notre Dame Academy in Belleville. She worked as a bookkeeper for Small’s Clothing Store in Belleville. She married Thomas Herbert on November 11, 1957. Mary enjoyed working in her yard and doing word search puzzles. In their retirement years, she and Tom enjoyed travelling with her parents, the late Edgar and Marie Munie.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Thomas on September 8, 2019; her parents; daughter-in-law Glenda Herbert; and grandson Kyle and his wife Rachel Herbert.

Surviving are her five children Jim, Tim (Sherry), Sue Becker, Tom, and Ken (Gina); grandchildren Keith (Susanna), Emily, Jacob, Tyler, and Jared; three great-grandsons Winston, Calloway, and Rockwell; siblings Wayne (Carolyn) Munie, George (Billie) Munie, Ann (Kurt) Tegtmeier, and Dolores (Kirk) McCullough; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

Visitation will be 9-10:30 am, Friday, September 5, 2025 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 301 N. Church St., Belleville, Ill.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Friday, September 5, 2025 at the church, with Fr. Joseph Oganda presiding and Msgr. John Myler concelebrating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
