Mary Helen Black, 76, passed away at 5:35 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, after a period of declining health.
She was born in Dexter, Missouri, on November 22, 1940, and was one of five children born to Harold Lester and Thelma (Lane) Fry.
Mary graduated from Jersey Community High School, and had been employed in the health care industry throughout her life. She utilized her caring heart assisting the elderly as LPN in various nursing facilities in Jerseyville, spending the vast majority of her time at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, and retired from Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home.
Her desire to help others didn't just revolve around the elderly, as she also loved children, and for a brief period of time, owned and operated a daycare facility located on Liberty Street in Jerseyville, called "For Kids Only."
She married David K. Black on Dec. 12, 1986, in Jerseyville, and together they have been blessed with 30 years.
Surviving are her husband, David Black of Jerseyville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and David Haun of Jerseyville, Lisa Alexander, and her companion, Frank Bowman of Jerseyville, and Kris and Barry Hauhe of Palm Harbor, Florida, nine grandchildren, numerous great- grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Eldon Kanallakan of Jerseyville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Margie Fry of Missouri, and Gary and Pati Fry of Elsah; a brother-in-law, Marty Porter of Indiana, and formerly of Mascoutah.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Porter.
At her request, she has been cremated, and a memorial visitation will begin at 9 a.m, Saturday, April 1, and continue until time of services at 11 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Inurnment will immediately follow at the Elsah Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society .
