Mary Elizabeth Skelton, 84, died at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Born July 4, 1926 in Alton, she was the daughter of James and Helen (Hentz) O’Neil. She graduated from Alton High School in 1944 and worked for Bell Telephone Company in Alton. She was a member of the Godfrey First United Methodist Church.
On March 26, 1955 in Carlinville, she married Howard L. Skelton. He survives. Also surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Skelton of Bethalto, Patrick and Cathie Skelton of Indianapolis, and Thomas and Xiao Skelton of Alton, seven grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Jason, Jakob, Jorey, Brittany, and Michael.
A memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Godfrey First United Methodist Church. Reverend Don E. Long Jr. will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Godfrey First United Methodist Church. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
