Mary J. Carroll, 61, of Sorento, passed away on September 15, 2026, at HSHS Holy Family Hospital in Greenville, Illinois.
Mary was born on July 30, 1965, in Granite City, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Velma (Burns) Spivey. She married David Walter Carroll at the courthouse in Edwardsville, Illinois, on October 31, 1997, sharing over 28 years of marriage.
She was a loving mother and grandmother to her son, Ruben, and her grandson, Xavier, and a beloved wife to her husband, David. She cherished her family above all else.
Mary was a giving person and an animal lover, especially devoted to her dogs and cat, which she adopted through the Metro East Humane Society. In her free time, she enjoyed antiquing and listening to classic rock. She especially enjoyed taking her grandson to Six Flags and Holiday World, creating lasting memories for her family. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend anyone could ask for.
Preceding her in death are her parents and brother, Terry Spivey.
Surviving Mary is her husband, David Carroll; son Ruben Vasquez; grandson, Xavier Vasquez all of Sorento; and siblings, Rick (Merida) Wilkiewicz of Fort Worth, Texas, Larry (Debbie) Wilkiewicz of Granite City, Illinois, and Brenda Spivey Partain of Rosiclare, Illinois.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In memory of Mary, the family asks that memorials be given in lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts to the Metro East Humane Society, 8495 IL-143, Edwardsville, IL 62025.
