Mary Ann Braden, 81, died at 11:43 a.m. Sunday, November 22, 2015 at her home in Alton. Born February 5, 1934 in Oblong, IL, she was the daughter of Hamlin and Phoebe (Richart) Condrey. She married William C. Braden on October 17, 1954 in Oblong. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2012. Mrs. Braden was a member of Godfrey First United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Women where she held several different positions. She was active in the 4H Club in her youth and served as a 4H leader as an adult and was a merit badge counselor with the Boy Scouts. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and belonged to the Greater St. Louis Airstream Unit where she was first lady and also president. In 1993 Mrs. Braden retired from the Alton School District as a home economics teacher after over 30 years of service. Surviving is a daughter, Roberta Atkins of Godfrey, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Peggi Braden of Waukegan, IL, six grandchildren, Jeri Atkins (Bob Garner), Billy Atkins (Deborah), Charlie Atkins, Sarah Braden, Paul Braden, and Luke Braden, three great grandchildren, Branden Moore, Ellianna Atkins, and Seraphina Atkins. She is also survived by a brother, Ralph “Smitty” Condrey of Robinson, IL, two sisters-in-law, Donna Condrey of Glen Carbon, and Aletha Kahle of Marion, IL, and one niece and many nephews. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Richard “Dick” Condrey. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Godfrey First United Methodist Church. Reverend Don E. Long Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Women, Godfrey First United Methodist Church Building Fund, or Boy Scout Troop 137.
