Mary A. “Frankie” Smith

Mary A. “Frankie” Smith, 93, passed away at 6:10pm on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at St. Clare’s Hospital in Alton. She was born on July 12, 1921, in McClure, Illinois the daughter of the late Byron and Alma (Giles) Stone. She married Herman M. Smith on April 24, 1941 in St. Charles, Missouri and he preceded her in death in 1999. Survivors include one daughter and son in law: Vicki and Larry McMichael of Wood River, two sons and daughters and law: Dale and Mary Etta Smith of Taylorville, Illinois, Jim and Jennifer Smith of Roxana, eight grandchildren and their spouses: Michael and Lisa Smith, Jill McMillan, Rachel and Peter Johnson, Amy and Brian Paul, Stacy and Jason John, Matt Smith, Emily Pechacek, Jessica Smith, twelve great grandchildren, and one sister: Dorothy Wolverton of Villa Grove, Illinois.

She was formerly employed as an ammunition maker at Western Cartridge Company. She worked at the St. Louis Ordinance and at McCory’s as a clerk for 17 years. She was involved with the Home Extension for 30 years. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Hartford.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son: Richard, and two sisters: Verna Gates and Delaine Huddleston.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the funeral home. Rev. Frank Sparks will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Memorials are suggested to New Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 25, Roxana, Illinois 62084 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
