Marvin H. Cole, 87, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1930 in Reeder, IL, he was a son of Loyd and Margaret (Dorks) Cole.
Marvin married Billie Jack (Cosgriff) Cottingham May 8, 1969 in St. Louis in his Aunt Bessie’s living room. The graduate of Carlinville High School served two terms in the U.S. Army from 1947-1953. He retired after 32 ½ years from Owens-Illinois Glass Co., then worked for Alton Mental Health for 10 years and the City of Wood River Parks & Recreation for 5 years. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Forest Homes, where he accepted Christ as his Savior. He also was a 42-year member of the East Alton American Legion, Post #794.
He was the world’s most die-hard Cardinal fan. He enjoyed the best seat in the house: seated in his recliner in front of his big-screen TV, with an unlimited supply of snacks always available.
He is survived by his wife of 48 ½ years, Billie; two stepdaughters, Dawn (Jim) Blazier of Foristell, MO and Karin Cottingham of Cottage Hills; 2 granddaughters, Jacqueline (James) Blazier Short of Highlands Ranch, CO and Samantha Blazier of Portland, OR; two sisters, Naomi Lancaster of Gillespie, IL and Geraldine Lambert of Argenta, IL; a brother, Dale Cole of Girard, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Nation; and two brothers, Merle and Harlan Cole.
