Martine E. O’Quinn, 69, passed away unexpectedly at 5:54 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2024 in the Emergency Room at Jersey Community Hospital.
She was born in Houston, Texas on August 24, 1954, one of three children born to the late Marvin Martin and Audrey (Townley) O’Quinn.
She was raised in Savannah, Georgia, where she graduated from Windsor Forest High School.
She married Frederick Wayne “PeeWee” Whitehead on April 16, 1983 and together they were the proud parents of a daughter, Crystal.
Martine attended Nursing School at Lewis and Clark Community College, and after the birth of her daughter, shifted her focus to being a loving and devoted mother.
She enjoyed spending time outdoors, watching the birds and thoroughly enjoyed sharing in the company of the ladies at her apartment complex. Throughout the years, she developed a close bond with them, and treasured the memories they all shared.
Her family meant the world to her, and following the birth of her grandson, Jaxon, she made sure to soak up every moment possible with him. She was there for his first steps, his first words and everything in between. The relationship that the two of them had was truly something to be admired.
She will be fondly remembered for her love of people and all of god’s creatures, her heart full of love, Christian values and for her quick wit, fiery red hair and personality to match!
Surviving are a daughter and son in-law, Crystal and Marc Cox of Jerseyville; her grandson, Jaxon; as well as a sister, Anne Collins of Savannah, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roger O’Quinn; as well as her grandparents, Martin Luther O’Quinn, Lillian Elizabeth Padgett, Henry Townley and Louis (Brasted) Townley Maeer.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
