He was born on November 27, 1964 in Alton, IL, the son of James M. Kopp and his wife, Mary (Bowen) Kopp and the late Bonnie (Besaw) Kopp.
He married Karla Karns on July 12, 1991 at the Godfrey Race Track. She survives.
Marty was self employed in construction. He was a member of the Bush Pilots, a stock car driver and he was the Duel Track Champion in 2004 for Tri City and Godfrey Speedway. He loved fishing, camping, boating and riding motorcycles.
Besides his wife, Karla of Godfrey, he is survived by his parents of Alton; a daughter & son-in-law, Chastity & Aaron Niemyer of Wood River; two sons, Martin Kopp Jr. & Jennifer Haneline of Alton and Robert Kopp of Alton; his step children, Ronald Heaton of East Alton and Kenneth & Jessica Heaton of Alton; nine grandchildren, Christopher Heaton, Riley Heaton, Aaron Niemyer Jr, Sabrina Kopp, Kaitlynn Niemyer, Ava Heaton, Andrew Kopp, Athena Heaton and Dylan Reid; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Besaw of Spanish Lake, MO; sisters, Cynthia Davis of Alton, Marilyn Duckett of Leona, KS and a brother, Richard Adkins of St. Joseph, MO
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie (Besaw) Kopp, maternal grandfather, Raymond Besaw, Paternal grandparents, John Herman Kopp and Ila Fern (Worthy) Kopp and a stepson, Shodi Heaton.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 with officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Bank of Edwardsville for the funeral expenses..
