Martha M. Betz, 65, passed away at 4:22 pm Monday, November 28, 2011 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born February 19, 1946 in Alton, the daughter of the late George and Margaret (Staten) Ruckman.
Martha married Michael J. Betz on February 14, 1975 in Alton, Illinois. He survives.
She graduated from Alton High School in 1964 and was employed at Millers Mutual as a clerk for 15 years then working for the Alton school district for 4 year and the American Water Company in Alton as a clerk. She enjoyed traveling and sewing, but her greatest joy was taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, and a daughter Theresa Thornhill of Cottage Hills, four grandchildren; Jacob Book, Margaret Book, William Thornhill and Bayligh Thornhill, one sister-in-law, Betty Read of Godfrey, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur & Althea Betz of Cottage Hills and several Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Read.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton, with Pastor Joseph Dunnagan.
Per her wishes cremation rites where accorded.
