Martha E. Popielewski, 87, passed away at 3:15 pm, Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Zell, Germany on July 7, 1925 the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Lina (Rummele) Kiefer.
On June 28, 1949 she married Dr. Henryk K. Popielewski. He preceded her in death December, 28, 2000.
She is survived by three daughters, Halina Popielewski of Godfrey, IL, Mary (Joe) Hanahan of Alton, and Krystina (Steven) Morris of Godfrey; one son, Robert (Tammy) Popielewski of St. Louis, MO; ten grandchildren, Michael, Sara, Nick, Grace, Ben, Ashley, Paige, Madelyn, William, and Noah; two sisters, Lioba (Dr. MS) Rao of Belleville and Gertrud Vogelmann of Germany; and one brother, Alois (Anna) Kiefer of Germany.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Werner Kiefer and Wilhelm Kiefer.
Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Father Steve Pohlman officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery Godfrey, IL.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Masses.
