Mother Marsha Stewart, at the age of 60, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 1:16 p.m. at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Marsha Elaine Newby Stewart was born November 20, 1954 in Carlinville, Illinois to the union of the late Edward A. and Vivian L. (Daniels) Newby. She was resident of Plainview, IL until the death of her father in 1969. Her mother moved their family to Alton; there she graduated from Alton High School and later attended Lewis and Clark Community College. She was employed Bert’s Shelter Care until her health failed. Mother Stewart was faithful woman of God and served faithfully at her church, Bethesda Temple of Alton. She served in many capacities: Sunday School Teacher, Van Ministry, Church Trustee, Women’s Auxiliary, and Mother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lewis and Vida Newby and Fred and Nellie Daniels; a sister-in-law, Diana Newby; a brother-in-law, Jessie Chatman; an aunt, Faye Newby; a nephew, Edward “Eddie” Newby; and a special Cousin, Junior Newby.
Left to cherish her fond memories: 6 children, Alecia Newby, Kendria Riddlespriger, Barnell Newby,Shmarla (Antonio) Clanton, Marca Taylor, and Orlando Stewart; 7 siblings, Virginia Chatman, Cynthia (William) Wilson, Brenda Woods, Paul (Gina) Newby, Steven Newby, Sheryl (Brian) Ashmore, and Jerry ( Molly) Newby; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.
Visitation will convene Wednesday, February 11 from 10 until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Bethesda Temple. Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery. Pastor Tonya Brown will officiate and Bishop Lawrence Brown will render the eulogy.
