Marlin Carl Schoenbaum, 87, of Godfrey, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

He was born on March 15, 1936 in Moro, Illinois, the son of Charles and Louise (Aljets) Schoenbaum.  Marlin married Marilyn Brown on October 29, 1960, in Bethalto at Zion Lutheran Church.

Marlin was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. He was a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau, a member of Zion Men's Club, a member of Mid-America Dairy Association and he enjoyed farming, gardening, fast pitch softball in his younger years, and dart ball at Zion Lutheran.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; his three children, Lisa (Carl) Dixon of Bethalto, Lori (Jeff) Tite of Dorsey, and Dane (Carol) Schoenbaum of Palmyra, PA; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Kenneth) Anderson, Daniel (Leslie) Dixon, Ellie Schoenbaum, Abigail Schoenbaum, Katherine Schoenbaum, and Madeline Schoenbaum; two great-grandchildren, Jane Dixon and Violet Dixon; and a brother, Hilmer (Anna Mae) Schoenbaum of Moro.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Violet (Robert) Lane.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 9 am until time of service at 11 am, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. Pastor Kale Hanson and Pastor Brandon Metcalf will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is entrusted with arrangements.

Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church and/or School.
