Marlene Doerr

Marlene J. Doerr, 83, passed away at 11:55 pm on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville, IL.She was born September 15, 1934, in Bethalto, Illinois, daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Johnson) Bernhard.Marlene married Cecil Doerr on November 19, 1954, in Alton. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1991.Marlene, along with her mother and daughter, owned and operated The Open Doerr restaurant and A”Doerr”Ables Catering in Bethalto. She also held several part time positions throughout the years including, food services at SIUE, secretary for Larry Admire State Farm, teller at Bank of Alton and bookkeeper for Airport Plaza Bowl.  She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, LWML, Zion Lutheran Ladies Aide, AAL Insurance group, Gateway Edsel Car Club and enjoyed showing antique cars, traveling, bowling and genealogy.Survivors include one daughter, Charlene (Darin) Wilson of Dorsey; three grandchildren, Britni Wilson of Bethalto, Brandon Wilson of Dorsey, and Angie (Shaun) King of Wood River; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a step daughter, Linda (Doerr) Maholovich.Visitation will be held 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto.Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riding for a Reason, Inc.
