Marla Brake

Marla Kay Brake, 73, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Shiloh, Illinois. Born on December 6, 1952, in Ripley, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Robie and Virginia (Brown) Brasfield.

On January 25, 1969, Marla married Terry Brake, the love of her life, in Edwardsville, Illinois. She worked as a certified nurse’s aide at Gateway Regional Hospital in Granite City, caring for others with the warmth she so readily shared with those around her.

Marla loved to shop and always welcomed a good laugh. Nothing brought her more happiness, though, than time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she delighted in spoiling. Her love for them, her laughter, and the joy she brought to everyday moments will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Marla was preceded in death by her siblings, Kathy Poston and Larry, Steve, and Jim Brasfield.

Marla is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Terry Brake of Granite City; her loving sons, David (Debra) Brake of Tampa, Florida, and Keith (Lisa) Brake of Arnold, Missouri; proud grandmother to Sydney Brake, Madison Brake, August Brake, and Harrison Brake; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and wonderful friends.

A private family gathering to celebrate Marla’s life will be held at a later date.
