Mark Spann Whitsell, 64, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at his home.
He was born May 29th, 1959, in Alton, IL, the son of Marvin and Marjorie (Spann) Whitsell.
Mark had worked as a car salesman and finance manager for over twenty-five years at various locations. Mark had a wonderful sense of humor, and he loved to make people laugh. He had a smile that could light up a room. He loved animals, including his pride and joy, Charlie. He loved music, the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, fishing, and his favorite movies and tv shows. Mark loved to sing, and he loved singing Johnny Mathis songs, in particular. He was a friend to many and loved to help others out in times of need. He was a great son, brother, and Father. He will truly be missed forever.
Mark is survived by his mother, Marjorie Whitsell of Godfrey, IL; his sister, Mary Whitsell of Batchtown, IL; seven children and their spouses, David and Rheanna Whitsell of Brighton, IL, Whitt Whitsell of Bethalto, IL, Matt and Carolyn Lahr of Broken Arrow, OK, Marc and Kelli Lahr of Greenville, IL, Sara and Jason Greenwell of Edwardsville, IL, Lara and Mike Phillips of Lithia, FL, and Luke and Melissa Lahr of Livingston, TX; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, and a 5th due this year, and was formerly married to Teresa Maher-Lahr (Jeff Minnie) of Brighton, IL, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Whitsell; grandparents, Edna and Russell Spann, and Mable Whitsell (Rohde) and Leo Rohde.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey is entrusted with professional services.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
