Mark Diak

Mark Diak, 71, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at 10:27 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at his home. He was born November 20, 1952, in East St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Joseph and Josephine J. (Nvota) Diak. He married the love of his life, Sarah (Shaffer) Diak on October 18, 1975, in Springfield, Illinois and she survives. Mark was a self-employed certified public accountant for 42 years and was the owner of Diak CPA. He was a parishioner of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6625 in Maryville. He had a love for Notre Dame Fighting Irish college football and also enjoyed watching baseball. In addition to his beloved wife of 49 years, he is survived by three children and spouses, Mike and Laura Diak of Maryville, Becky and Nick Sutton of Addison and Doug Diak of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Drew Diak, Brendan Diak, Emme Diak, Oliver Sutton and Jack Sutton; two sisters and spouses, Elaine and Jim Urbanek of Chicago Heights and Dianne and Robert Peabody of St. Louis; many cousins; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Diak. In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Chalice Presentation at 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, with Father Rob Johnson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #6625 in Maryville or to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville. www.irwinchapel.com
