Mark Allen Cook, age 60, of Edwardsville, died at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born June 24, 1955, in Granite City, the son of Charles Cook, deceased, and Doris Reiter Cassens. He married Denise Miller on July 17, 1976, at First Baptist Church in Edwardsville. She survives. Also surviving are his mother: Doris Reiter Cassens of Edwardsville; two sisters: Joyce Frain of Glen Carbon and Marcia Davis of Glen Carbon; nieces: Christy Frain of Glen Carbon, Marci Davis of Glen Carbon, Lindsey (Tony) Skenderi, Carin (Jim) Bock and Kate (Jacob) Pruemer; a sister-in-law: Debbie (Ron) Slemer of Edwardsville; great nephews: Vincent Skenderi, Kristofer (Mark's godson) Skenderi and Michael Skenderi and great nieces Emma, Cecilia and Genevieve Bock and great nephews: John, Joshua and James Pruemer. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by step-father Albert Cassens and father and step-mother Charles and Wilma Cook. Mr. Cook was a member of Giddens International and the Edwardsville Rotary. He received a master's degree in business administration from SIUE. He was a loan officer at United Illinois Bank in Troy. He gave of himself – above and beyond – looking after his family and friends. In 1998, Mark received the gift of a kidney from his cousin Barry Reiter. Mark cannot thank Barry enough for the extra years of his life. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home in Edwardsville. The service will be a "Sharing of Thoughts" from family and friends at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Mark Cook Kidney Transplant Fund c/o Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation.
