Marjorie Leigh (Rhoades) Liles departed this life in the early hours of January 3, 2018. She was born August 2nd, 1919 to her parents Andrew and Rose Rhoades in their home in rural Kane, Illinois.
She married Reverend Raymond Liles, March 30th, 1941 at Kemper Baptist church where he was pastor. She graduated Jersey Community High School in 1938, and then attended Blackburn College where she completed two years to receive her teacher certification. After graduation, she taught three years at Hamilton Memorial School in Otterville, IL. She graduated from St. Mary’s College, Xavier, Kansas where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught schools in Illinois, Kansas, Tennessee, New Hampshire, California, and Missouri. She taught Special Education classes in St. Louis Public Schools until her retirement in 1972. She was president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and a registered and certified Educational Therapist, working with the Veterans’ Administration in Memphis, Tennessee during which time her husband, Chaplain Liles, was assigned there as a chaplain.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Liles, and is survived by her son, Byron Paddy (Sara) Liles of Springfield, Illinois. Four grandchildren: Craig Liles of Decatur, Illinois; Barry (Kathy) Liles of Godfrey, Illinois; Beckee (James) Graham of Illiopolis, Illinois; and Stephanie (Kurt) Siciliano of Springfield, Illinois; five great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and eight step great grandchildren.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at 11a.m., held at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, Illinois with a funeral immediately following at 12 Noon. Reverend Brent Meyer and Reverend Clay Noah will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at the Kane Cemetery in Kane, Illinois. In Lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville, Illinois. Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Charge of Arrangements.
