Marion Stamps

Marion J. Stamps, 90, of Swansea, Illinois passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at his home.

He was born February 29, 1928 in Granite City, a son of the late Harry A. and Mary (Jolly) Stamps.  He married Betty L. (Toon) Stamps on June 15, 1947 in Mayfield, Kentucky and she passed away on September 21, 2010. 

Marion owned and operated Stamps Sewer and Pipe Cleaning in Granite City, the family business which began in 1898, and also operated  the AmericInn in Caseyville.  He was a dedicated member of Gospel Assembly of God Church in Jerseyville and enjoyed being with family and friends, singing and traveling. 

He is survived by his four children, Stephen M. (Dolly Wood) Stamps of Edwardsville, Brenda (Bill) Boyd of Swansea, Gregory (Cathy) Stamps of Eldorado and Charlotte (Roy) Hinderliter of Swansea; five grandchildren, Kristine Stamps Miller, Joe “J.C.” Stamps, Jeffrey Stamps, Ian Stamps and Jon Hinderliter; nineteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Marybelle (John) Hampsey of Belleville, Martha Hart of St. Louis and Lucretia (Jim) Browning of Eldorado; three brothers, Richard (Susan) Stamps of Louisville, Kentucky, Dan Stamps of Eldorado and Bill Stamps of Dixon; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. 

In addition to his beloved wife of 63 years and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Frederick Stamps and Joseph Harry Stamps; six brothers, Paul, Alfred, Tom, Phillip, Charles and Tim Stamps and one sister, Rose Marie Kurtek.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m.

Rev. Clyde Shaw, Rev. Steven Farmer and Rev. DeWayne Jolly officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.  Memorials may be made to Gospel Assembly of God Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois and may be accepted at the funeral home.
