Marion E. Helmes, age 99, of Alton, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at St Anthony Health Care in Alton.
She was born June 17, 1917, in Hammond, IN, the daughter of Lester and Dolly (Hines) Sherer. She married William C. Helmes and he preceded her in death in 2007.
Marion had worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Works as a selector for thirty years. She loved bingo, travel, and reading. Marion attended Rosewood Heights First General Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth M. Crocker of Alton; a half-brother, Robert Sherer of CA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Cathy and Tony Monroe of Brighton, Michael Crocker of Alton, Randal Crocker of Alton, and Spring and Mike Morreli of Alton; six great-grandchildren, Scott and Steven Monroe, Wyatt and Gentry Crocker, and Logan and Tyler Morreli.
In addition to her husband; she is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016, from 10:00 am until the time of service at Noon at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton with Pastor Dan Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
