Marion Durbin

Marion Carl Durbin passed away May 17, 2013 in Lugano, Switzerlan. He was born October 7, 1943, youngest of three children, born to the late Joseph and Nellie Mae (Wise) Durbin.

He graduated from Bunker Hill High School and SIU of Edwardsville. He worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation office in Washington DC for two years after his graduation from college. Marion joined the Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. On his return from service he received his CPA certificate and worked in St. Louis for a year. But Marion’s desire for adventure led him to positions in Alaska, and other countries including Iran, Switzerland, Russia and Africa.

He leaves behind a wife, Anneliese of Lugano, Switzerland; a daughter, Michelle (Doug) Struble and a granddaughter, Briana of Savannah, Tennessee; a son Francesco and fiancée, Mischelle of Lugano, Switzerland; a brother, Gerald (Dorothy) Durbin of Bethalto; a sister Dolores (Dee) Oller of Roxana; four nephews and two nieces.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Karl Oller.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 132 Butcher St., Bethalto, IL. A lunch will be served in the church basement for family and friends to reminisce about Marian’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Food Pantry at Our Lady Queen of Peace or a Charity of One’s Choice.
