Marilyn Thomas

Marilyn Kaye Thomas, age 72, of Granite City, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in the loving company of her daughters. She was born on October 23, 1953, in Granite City, IL, the beloved daughter of the late Thomas D. Mundy Sr. and LaDonna I. (McGinnes) Mundy.

On December 31, 1970, Marilyn Mundy married the love of her life, Michael Joseph Thomas, in Granite City. The two shared a beautiful life together until Michael’s passing on February 25, 2019. Marilyn was a member of City Temple in Granite City, where she found joy and purpose in reading her Bible daily and serving the Lord with a faithful heart.

Marilyn spent many years working at the Melvin Price Army Depot commissary before beginning a long and meaningful career as a unit secretary at the Dialysis Center, from which she later retired. Outside of work, she embraced life with a loving and adventurous spirit. She enjoyed quilting, fishing, camping, and traveling. Marilyn also held fond memories as a member of the Eagles Lodge #1126 in Granite City. Above all, Marilyn treasured the moments she spent with her family, especially spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her twin sister, Carolyn Harley, and her brothers, Thomas Mundy Jr., Jeffrey Mundy, and David Mundy.

She is survived by her loving children: Michelle (Daniel) Thomas-Niles of Lincoln, NE; Jennifer (Mark) Seagle of St. Louis, MO; and Donna Kaye (Jason) Wernsman of Granite City, IL, proud grandmother to Randy, Tristan, Jadon, and Faith, and a proud great-grandmother to Remy, Jude, Layson, Cole, Maverick, and Melody Jade —each of whom brought immense joy to her life.

She is also survived by her dear sister, Vicky (Kenneth) Rayborn of Mt. Carmel, IL; her sister-in-law, Marilynn Denise (Mark) Townzen; her brothers-in-law, Steven Thomas and Ralph Thomas Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold her memory close.

In celebration of Marilyn’s life, visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, IL. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved Michael at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
