Marilyn Roberts

Marilyn Rosin Roberts died Sunday, February 3, 2019, at the Rosewood Care Center of Alton after a long period of declining health. She was 94 years old.

Predeceasing Mrs. Roberts were her husband of 69 years, Jack Deighton Roberts, and her parents, Thomas Nelson Rosin and Freda Gerdes Rosin.

She is survived by six children, John R. Roberts and wife, Elaine, Greensboro, North Carolina; Jeffrey A. Roberts and wife Bonnie, Littleton, Colorado; Judy Roberts Barstow and husband Thomas, Van Buren, Missouri; Jerry L. Roberts, Belleville, Illinois; Joseph M. Roberts, Springfield, Illinois; and Jason D. Roberts, St. Louis, Missouri. She is also survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous cousins in the Alton area.

Mrs. Roberts was born on December 14, 1924. Raised on a farm at the end of Gocke Road near Bethalto, she often recounted memories of her life as a child growing up during the Depression. Although an only child, Mrs. Roberts was part of a large extended family who often spent extended periods of time visiting the Rosin farm. She took delight in describing a photo at the Bethalto Historical Museum that shows her among a group of children riding to school in a covered wagon pulled by a brace of horses.

Mrs. Roberts attended Bethalto public schools and graduated from Alton High School. World War II was underway and she worked at the Western Cartridge division of Olin Corporation until war?s end. She and Jack were married at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Alton on Memorial Day in 1946. As the family grew, they owned homes in Bethalto, Wood River and Rosewood Heights.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 8, at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

The Roberts family would like to thank the nurses at Rosewood Care Center and Hospice for the excellent care Mrs. Roberts received in the months prior to her death.
