Marie Kallal JERSEYVILLE-  Marie Elizabeth Kallal, 68, passed away at 2:40 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2016 at her home in rural Jersey County surrounded by her family after a two month battle with cancer.She was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on Nov. 10, 1948, and was one of four children born to Elmer M. and Frances L. (Hormel) Ankney.Marie graduated from Big Horn High School in Big Horn, Wy., and attended both Sheridan (Wy.) Junior College and St. John's School of Nursing in Rapid City, SD.She met Jersey County native, Henry Joseph Kallal, while they both were attending a 4-H gathering in Chicago, and after a few years of courtship, the two married on Dec. 29, 1969 in Sheridan, Wyoming.  Their nearly 47 years marriage has been blessed with much happiness, as the both shared the joys of raising their four children and now the blessings of seven grandchildren with another grandbaby due any day.In 1985,  she opened her own little shop on West Third Street in downtown Alton,  naming in Marie's Kitchen.  With the help of great friends, it became a success, with the sweet smell of potato rolls and cinnamon rolls drawing the customer through the front door.  Her venture was even featured in the Wall Street Journal, and she continued to enjoy her endeavor for 14 years, before beginning her catering business, serving the local area until her retirement in 2013.Surviving are her husband, Henry J. Kallal of Jerseyville; a daughter, Lisa Kallal of London, England; three sons & daughters in law, Clint & Andi Kallal of Jerseyville, Curt & Nikki Kallal of Polk City, Iowa., and Luke Kallal and Lauren Pegue of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kay Ankney of Springfield, Oregon; and two brothers, Jim Ankney of Sheridan, Wy., and Leo Ankeny of Decker, Montana.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father in law and mother in law, Albert & Martha Kallal.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father Patrick Gibbons officiating.She will be laid to rest in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to either the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville or to the Blessing Hospice of Greene County.
