Marian Zielinski, 90, passed away June 15, 2016, at Suncrest Nursing Home in the company of her family. She was born January 19, 1926 in St. Louis, to Edward and Hulga Parkes. She is survived by brother Jim Parkes, daughter, Margaret ‘Missy’ Zielinski Paleno, (Rob), and their children, Megan and Andrew Paleno, son David Zielinski, and his children, Jennifer Price (Erik), Erica Zielinski and Emily Zielinski. She was preceded in death by her sons Michael Zielinski and Matthew Zielinski, and brother Edward Parkes.
Marian grew up in Alton, IL and and studied science at Shurleff College before moving to Chicago. There she married Eugene Mark Zielinski and lived in Chicago, New York, France and Los Angeles. After returning to Alton as a single mother with 4 children she returned to school to became a Laboratory Technician and worked until her retirement at Normandy Osteopathic Hospital in St Louis. After her retirement Marian joined the Alton public school system in the grandparenting program helping children to read. Despite facing a number of significant challenges in her life, Marian remained a woman of great faith and was an active member of Hillcrest Nazarene Church, and later Calvary Baptist Church, both in Alton. Marian loved to read, spend time with children, and always made sure her children wore a sweater or cap when it was cold.
A gathering to honor her life will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Alton. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhomecom
