Margie Mathus, 87, died at 12:55 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Methodist Village. She was born May 3, 1929 in Alton the daughter of the late John and Helen (Cousins) Riggi. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton and was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Home Extension Group. She loved to oil paint and enjoyed swimming, golf and racquetball. She retired after many years as a sales clerk for Famous-Barr. On May 10, 1950 she married Phillip William Mathus and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2004. Surviving are one daughter; Debbie K. Brumley (Mark) of East Alton; two sons; Michael S. Mathus and John A. Mathus, all of Godfrey; eight grandchildren, Kacey Panyik (Brent), Drew Brumley (Christy), Courtney McCann, Joshua Mathus, Christopher Mathus (Kellen), Jason Mathus, Jill Mathus-Carrier and Jana Mathus; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Tharp, Trevor Panyik, Kendall Panyik, Matthew Allen, Colton Carrier, Chase Carrier and Logan Mathus. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Greding. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Father John Luong officiating.
