Margaret Blackketter

Margaret M. Blackketter, age 79, of Bethalto, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Health Center and was carried to heaven on the wings of angels.

She was born April 19, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of George and Ida (Brown) Heffner. She married Darwin Blackketter on May 30, 1959 in Philadelphia, PA, and he survives.

Margaret was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She also belonged to Leisure World. Margaret enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and hummingbirds. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren. She loved the Philadephia Eagles, St. Louis Cardinals and Elvis.

In addition to her husband, Darwin; she is survived by seven children and their spouses, Peggy and Mike Lexow of Troy, IL, Jim Blackketter of Troy, IL, Christopher Blackketter and his significant other, Tina Little, of Godfrey, Karen and Greg Mathis of Wood River, Jeanine Blackketter of Rosewood Heights, Georgia Blackketter of St. Louis, MO, and Frances Blackketter of Cocoa, FL; ten grandchildren, Cassi, Nicole, Travis, Tyler (Alicia), Taylor, Aaron (Karen), Ben, Christopher, Shannon, and Nathan; five great-grandchildren, Jared, Drake, Bryce, Addilynn, and Lily; Aunt Gladys of Philadelphia, PA, Aunt Eileen Moffit of New Jersey, and a dear friend Alice Price; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George and Raymond Heffner; and her foster parents, Aunt Caroline and Uncle Jake Heffner of Philadelphia, PA.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 21, 2018, at 11:30 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Tom Liebler officiating.

Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OLQP School Fund.
