Margaret Delores Wittman, 74, died at 7:19 p.m., Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis after a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis.She was born on Aug. 12, 1937, and was the daughter of the later Hugh H. and Adah D. (Jones) Allen. As a young girl she attended Fremont School in rural Jersey County, and later transferred to St. Francis Xavier School before graduating from Jersey Community High School in 1955.She spent most of her working career as a secretary for attorney, John Hoefert until his death, and then his son, Jack Hoefert. The Hoefert's initially were her bosses, but she soon considered them family.Margaret married George "Butch" Wittman on June 4, 1966 in Jerseyville, and they have spent nearly 45 years together, and have been blessed with three children & five grandchildren.Surviving are her husband; two daughters & sons in law, Mary Ellen & David Kirbach and Sarah & Chris Collins all of Jerseyville; a son, Phillip Wittman of Jerseyville; five grandchildren, Betsy & Laura Kirbach, Margaret "Maggie", John & Emily Collins, whom she especially loved spending time with; two sisters & a brother in law, Barbara Burge and Kathy & Jerry Wittman of Jerseyville; and a brother, Thomas Allen of Edwardsville.She is also survived by her mother in law, Mary Ann "Mayme" Wittman of Jerseyville; her brothers & sisters in law, Becky & Lewie Miles, Helen & Ron Medford, Neal & Cindy Wittman, Hope & Randy Gibson, Bonnie & Wayne Seehausen, Minette & Bob Griffith, Vince & Kay Wittman, Gene & Jackie Wittman; in addition to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.Margaret looked forward to her "Thursday lunch crew" and her late night coffee and Dairyland runs with her sisters and friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister & brother in law Patricia & Patrick Palumbo; a brother in law, James Burge; and her father in law, Carl Wittman.Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow and Father Patrick Gibbons concelebrating.Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville.She was truly loved by all.
