Margaret Blackorby Cappel, 86, passed away at 8:33 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, her 86th birthday, at her home in Godfrey with her loving family at her side. Born May 24, 1931 in Hamburg, IL, she was the daughter of Willis and Mary (Buchanan) Blackorby. Throughout her entire life, Margaret was always well known for taking care of the needs of others before her own. She was a loving mother and grandmother who spent her retirement years with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Beverly and Paul Schoeberle of Florida, Terry and Joyce Cappel (her caregiver) of Godfrey, Victoria and Mike Claywell of Jerseyville, and Connie Trowbridge of Ohio. Five grandchildren; Jason and Meghan Hicks of Florida, Patrick Claywell of Maryland Heights, Bill and Jill Cappel of Glen Carbon, Ashley and Chris Vanausdoll of Jerseyville, and Terra and Tony Martinez of St. Charles. Five great grandchildren; Chase Martinez, Jerra Vanausdoll, Addison Hicks, Emery Vanausdoll, and Lynlee Cappel. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Cappel, her son-in-law, Scott Trowbridge, four brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
