Marcella Frenz

Marcella “Connie” Constance Frenz, 97, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab.

She was born on April 1, 1928, in Griggsville, Illinois, to Stanley and Mary (Jenkins) Calhoun. On June 22, 1947, she married Harold Frenz in Alton, and together they shared many wonderful years.

Connie worked alongside Harold operating Harold’s Market. She was a proud member of Main Street Baptist Church. Connie had a zest for life and a sparkle that matched her love of anything that glittered. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends and could often be found dancing on Friday and Saturday nights at the VFW, where she made countless memories over the years. She was also a member of the Alton VFW 1308 Women’s Auxiliary and the Alton Eagle’s 254 Women’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughters, Marsha (Harry) Kulp and Valerie Maupin; grandchildren, Amy (Ervin) Mayhew, Kevin (Matyka) Kulp, Brandi (Brian) Brewer, and Nick Maupin; great-grandchildren, Tyler Mayhew, Tanner Mayhew, Tucker Mayhew, Shelby Kulp, Hayden Kulp, Makenzie Foiles, Riley Brewer, Skylar Maupin and Jayde Maupin; half-brother, Harold Jones of Indiana.

Along with her beloved husband and parents, Connie was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Brandon Brewer; brothers, Stanley Calhoun and Kenneth Calhoun; son-in-law, Joseph Maupin; and stepfather, Ray Jones.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, Illinois. Funeral services will follow on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home with Danny Michel officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
