Marcella Ann Karrick

Marcella Ann Karrick, 73, died at 3:22 p.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton after a brief illness.

She was born on the family farm in Jersey County, near Fidelity on Oct. 25, 1936, one of four children born to the late Joseph R. & Emily V. (Albert) McKinney.She graduated in 1954 from Jersey Community High School, and worked at Owens-Illinois until the plant closing, and then immediately began working at Conoco-Phillips where she was affiliated with the making of artificial synthetic fuels.  She retired in 1998 after 13 years of service.Family was the center of Marcella's being, and she enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.  She enjoyed fishing, reading, and movies, even though she slept through the vast majority of them.Surviving are her four children & their spouses, Debra & Joe Wall of Edinburg, Karen & John Cobetto of Dow, Steve & Jeri Karrick of Grafton, and Penny Karrick of Cottage Hills; 12 Grandchildren & their spouses, Richard & Evalina Gentry of Valencia, Ca., Kelly & Eric Fromm, Charlene Ralston all of Springfield, Ryan & Katherine Gentry of Rochester, Adam & Dani Gentry of Springfield, Matthew Mundy of Portland, Or., Shannon & Andy Thomas of Jerseyville, Shaniece Hetzel of Kane, Ethan Hetzel of Dow, Cory & Kathy Darr of Jerseyville, Megan Karrick of Grafton, and Chase Karrick of Cottage Hills; three great grandchildren; and a sister & brother in law, Phyllis & Greg Geil of Chesterfield, Mo.She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Justin Mundy; an infant brother, Joseph McKinney Jr., ; and an infant sister, Charlotte Kay McKinney.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.  Father William Hembrow will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to BJC Hospice.
