Marceda Cook

Marceda LaVonne Cook, 98, passed away peacefully at 4:20 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Hardin, Illinois on August 17, 1925, and was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy (Sprong) Swan.

She attended Hardin High School, and was devoted tirelessly to her family. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, bird watching, cooking, quilting, and never passed up an opportunity to go shopping.

She married George Pruitt on September 11, 1943, and together they were blessed with two daughters and 17 years of marriage before his death on April 9, 1961. She then married Albert Cook, and they were blessed with a daughter and 35 years of marriage before his death on April 14, 2002.

Surviving are three daughters and a son in-law, Marie Grether and Cynthia Bick, both of Jerseyville; and Judy and Jeff Lammy of Hamburg; seven grandchildren and their spouses,  Angela and Tim Ipock of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Dee Dee and Jerry Longley of Jerseyville, Heather and Jason Huitt of Jerseyville, Steve and Maggie Bick of Jerseyville, Josh and Jayda Bick of Alton, Dakota and Megan Lammy of Barry, and Kayla Lammy, and her companion, Tyler, of Hamburg; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter;  two brothers and a sister in-law, Jerome Swan of Hamburg and Frank "Pete" and Virginia Swan of Kampsville; three sisters and two brothers in-law, Virginia and Delford Thomas of Pleasant Hill, Marlene Webb of Wood River, and Anita and Larry Siemer of Batchtown; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tina (Grether) Clothier; two sons-in-law, Dean Grether and James Bick; four brothers, Harold, James, Donald and William Swan; a sister, Rosemary Johnson; and an infant sister.

Private visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial took place in the Fieldon Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Angel Tree Ministries in Jerseyville.
